The mission of the annual Positively 6th Street Fair is to connect local residents, some of whom are homeless or formerly homeless, with tools for personal change, improve the perceived image and reality of the neighborhood through positive celebration, increase community cohesion, demonstrate that 6th Street is home to a viable community, provide positive role models and sources of entertainment for inner-city youth, support the local economy, and increase community cohesion.
The Positively 6th Street Fair Planning Committee is comprised of active community members representing residents, artists and cultural groups, community-based organizations, and merchants with a shared interest in improving the quality of life along San Francisco's 6th Street corridor.
At the Positively 6th Street Fair 2008, hundreds of people enjoyed the music, cultural performances, family fun, and free services and assistance available at this free all-day community event.
The organizers of the Positively 6th Street Fair welcome you to your neighborhood celebration; from the smallest baby at South of Market Child Care Center to the respected elderly of our community. From the residents of the neighborhood lofts and condos and people living in single resident occupancy rooms that line 6th Street to the people without rooms, who live tucked into streets and sidewalks; come enjoy a safe place to celebrate the community and meet your neighbors .
The Positively 6th Street Fair aspires to unite local residents and businesses in a spirit of community, bring attention to the condition of the neighborhood, connect those most in need to community services, and of course showcase the unique spirit that is 6th Street!
We come together for diverse reasons: individual spiritual enrichment, honoring community loyalty, self-imposed ethical obligations and other influences of "the angels of our better nature."
